HCI Group Fills Two Key Positions

The HCI Group names Juan Diaz senior vice president and general counsel, Shelby Weir vice president of sales

Additions to leadership team come as healthcare IT consultancy
grows U.S. and international operations

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – December 9, 2013 – Jacksonville-based the HCI Group, a leading provider of healthcare information technology strategy and enterprise consulting services to healthcare organizations, has named Juan Diaz as senior vice president and general counsel and Shelby Weir as vice president of sales.

As senior vice president and general counsel, Diaz will cultivate and grow strategic partnerships with international health IT consulting firms, hardware providers and applications providers to enhance the HCI Group’s go-to market approach and service offerings. He will lead all corporate legal activities including contracts with vendors and clients and legal and regulatory compliance. Diaz will also play a key role in developing the company’s growth strategy for the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

"Juan brings not only legal expertise but also a wealth of experience in strategic planning that will serve the HCI Group well as we continue expanding our operations overseas,” said Ricky Caplin, CEO of the HCI Group.

Diaz comes to the HCI Group with a broad range of experience in corporate counsel, compliance and business development. Before joining the HCI Group, Diaz served as general counsel for Association Capital Resources and, prior to that, as corporate and compliance counsel for Safariland, formerly a BAE Systems company, where he managed a variety of legal and compliance activities related to the company’s commercial and government sales. Diaz previously served as corporate counsel for CSX Corporation in Jacksonville.

Diaz received his law degree from the University of Florida and his bachelor’s degree in economics and international affairs from Florida State University. He serves on the board of governors for Epping Forest Yacht Club and as a member of the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville’s grant panel. Diaz was named one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Jacksonvillians” by 904 Magazine in 2009 and is a member of the Leadership Jacksonville class of 2008.

 

Shelby Weir, Vice President of Sales

As vice president of sales, Weir will oversee all operations of the HCI Group’s Southeast and Midwest sales teams, focusing on accountability and issue resolution. In addition to leading the company’s sales activities, she will assist in developing customized solutions to hospitals’ and health systems’ IT challenges.

Weir joins the HCI Group with 18 years of experience in IT and business process consulting with a focus on the healthcare sector. She specializes in program management, electronic medical record implementation, health information management and other IT and operational projects to support new federal mandates pertaining to health records. Most recently, Weir served as national account director for healthcare for Virginia-based Digital Intelligence Systems, where she led the company’s nationwide development of healthcare solutions addressing electronic medical record conversion challenges. Prior to joining Digital Intelligence Systems, Weir spent close to 10 years at Tampa-based Kforce Inc., where she served as regional account executive and managing market director before assuming the role of director of strategic accounts for the company’s healthcare division. She also served as an account executive with Tampa-based Acclaris and in several roles with Tampa-based TMP Worldwide (formerly System One).

Weir received her bachelor’s degree in speech communication from the University of South Florida. She is active within many Tampa organizations including the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, the Tampa Bay Technology Forum and Tampa Bay Women After Work. She also is a volunteer baseball manager and coach for the Wesley Chapel Athletic Association and volunteers with the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
